National President's Awards

Nashville, Tenn — On May 22, the Western Los Angeles County Council was recognized as at honoree for National President’s Awards for Marketing Excellence at the 2014 National Annual Meeting in Nashville.

National President’s Awards for Marketing Excellence recognize outstanding marketing efforts by councils in 11 categories. WLACC received recognition in the Website category for our new Wood Badge Website, woodbadge.bsa-la.org.

Best Website

“We realized that each Wood Badge course director was doing all their own marketing from scratch each year,” said Jenson Crawford, who built the website in order to help the course directors focus on the course rather than marketing. Crawford worked with former course director Jeremy Mo to develop a set of objectives for the Website:

  • Provide a permanent repository for Wood Badge Courses for the council
  • Use national brand guidelines to establish the idea that Wood Badge is a national course, which just happens to be offered locally
  • Provide information marketing the idea of Wood Badge to potential participants
  • Provide secure information for current course participants and staff
  • Provide easy access to printable registration forms, information brochures as well as online registration
  • Provide a place to post information (such as beading dates and reunion information) for prior course participants

The impact on the council has been an increase participant interest and buzz about the November 2014 course, which is already over 50% full.

The marketing group stated in their congratulatory letter to the council that our “planning, creativity, attention to detail, and alignment with national brand standards were exceptional and worthy of recognition.”

In addition to the recognition in Nashville, the council office will receive a trophy, a framed certificate, and copies of the awards brochure during the first week of June.
